Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara National Park is a scenic wildlife destination situated beneath the dramatic cliffs of the Great Rift Valley. Despite its compact size, the park features diverse habitats, including groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodland and the shallow alkaline lake. Visitors may encounter elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, baboons and numerous antelope species, as well as the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. The park is also an excellent birdwatching destination, with flamingos, pelicans, storks, hornbills and many other species recorded around the lake and forests. Game drives offer beautiful views of the Rift Valley escarpment and close wildlife encounters, making Lake Manyara an ideal addition to Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. Its location between Arusha, Tarangire and Ngorongoro makes it particularly suitable for shorter itineraries.
