Mount Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and one of Tanzania’s most iconic natural landmarks. Rising to 5,895 metres above sea level, its snow-capped summit towers over the surrounding plains. The mountain’s trekking routes pass through several ecological zones, from cultivated foothills and lush rainforest to alpine desert and the icy landscape near Uhuru Peak.
Climbing Kilimanjaro requires determination and careful acclimatisation, but no technical mountaineering experience is needed on most routes. Travellers who do not wish to reach the summit can enjoy day hikes through the lower slopes, visit waterfalls and explore nearby Chagga communities. A Kilimanjaro experience can also be combined with a wildlife safari in Tanzania’s northern national parks or a relaxing Zanzibar beach holiday.
